San Diego - Michael (Mike) Koligman passed away unexpectedly in San Diego, CA on March 5th, 2021, he was 65.
Mike was born in New York, New York on January 31, 1956 and moved to Poughkeepsie, New York as a young boy. He attended Spackenkill schools and graduated in 1973 from Poughkeepsie High School. He was very excited to study electrical engineering and started at Marist College in Poughkeepsie and then transferred to the University of Detroit. He graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and accepted a position with PAR Government Systems in New Hartford, NY. He was pleased to work for PAR for 25 years and was instrumental in opening a San Diego based branch of the company in La Jolla, CA. When he retired from PAR, he joined his wife Linda in operating the Thomas Kinkade Renaissance Galleries in San Diego, Orem, Utah and Las Vegas, NV. They worked together in that business for 20 years. Mike's third and final career was his career of passion. He became a Certified Dog Trainer in 2014 and began building his K9 Positive Training business. Anyone who knew Mike, could see that he was never as happy as when he was surrounded by his doggie friends. He had a passion to help dogs be the best that they could be. He never lost patience and never gave up on any dog. He would often say that he really felt he was making a significant impact on all the dogs he met and their people as well. He was never without a pocketful of biscuits for any friend who wanted one, even when he traveled with his wife.
Mike was a generous, loving, big-hearted man. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always filled a room with his love of life. Mike didn't have strangers in his life, only friends he hadn't met yet. He loved to spend time and especially holidays with his family. His compassion brought comfort to so many and he will be forever missed.
Mike was preceded in death by his biological father, John Koligman, his mother Tania (Kobylansky) Kuzmyn, his father, Paul Kuzmyn, his grandfather and name-sake, Mychajlo Kobylansky, his grandmother Wiera Kobylansky and his aunt Lena (Kobylansky) Castro as well as his in-laws, Ray & Hope Parsons.
Mike is survived by his best friend for 49 years and dearly-loved wife of 30 years, Linda (Parsons) Koligman. He is also survived by his brother John Koligman and his wife Nadia of Aurora, IL, his brother Dmytro (Jim) Kuzmyn and his daughter Chloe, his sister Vera Romasco, her husband Stephen and their daughter Natalie all of Poughkeepsie NY. He is also survived by his aunt and uncle Oksana and Nicholas Hubenko of Freehold, NJ. Other survivors include his cousin Alexandra-Hubenko Baker and her husband Daniel and their daughter, Katerina of San Diego. He is survived by his brother-in-law Donald Reilly and his three daughters, Suzanne, Dana & Kimberly in addition to many great nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his four-legged companions, Charlie & Abbey and a legion of friends too numerous to count.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Helen Woodward Animal Center, Rancho Santa Fe, CA on Sunday, April 18 from 1 to 4 pm. It will be held in the Education Pavilion. Mike volunteered at the Center for 15 years, first in Adoptions and then in the Pet Therapy Program. It made him grateful when he was able to bring a smile to someone's face when he showed up to visit facility residents with either Thunder, Charlie or Abbey.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the family plot at St. Andrews Ukrainian Cemetery, 280 Main Street, South Bound Brook, NJ.
