SAEGERTOWN Paul William Acker, 79, of 16310 State Highway 198, Saegertown passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, peacefully at his residence. He was born in Meadville, Oct. 24, 1927, the son of the late Earl and Maybelle Taylor Acker. In 1965, he married Jeanne Ruth Sturrock, she passed away Jan. 7, 1990. He previously had married Twila Sturrock June 7, 1946, she passed away July 23, 1954.
He was of the Methodist Faith.
He retired from Wean Industries of Youngstown, Ohio. He previously had been employed as a foreman by the former American Brakeshoe Co. While attending Saegertown High School, he also attended the Meadville Vocational School.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the Miniature Horse Club and for several years he showed his herd of miniature horses at several fairs. He was a former Hayfield Township supervisor.
His greatest joy was to be with his family, he especially loved to be with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include four children, Paula Newhard and her husband, John, of Saegertown, Linda Waid of Erie, Paul William Acker, Jr. and his wife, Vicki, of North Carolina, and Martha Alcorn of Ravenna, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; three sisters, Josephine Muckinghaupt of Conneautville, Betty Fucci and her husband, Frank, of Warren, Ohio, and Patty Wybrial and her husband, Walter, of Wichita Falls, Texas; two brothers, Ed Acker and his wife, Peg, and Dan Acker and his wife, Bev, both of Saegertown; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, George and an infant, Bobbie Acker.
Calling hours will be Monday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Hunter Funeral Home, 330 Broad St., Saegertown where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. with Pastor Christine Rogan, pastor of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Acker-Roger Cemetery, Hayfield Township, with full military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 of Meadville. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 448 Pine St., Meadville, Pa., 16335, or the Humane Society of Crawford County, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, Meadville, Pa., 16335.
