Mrs. Tucker Rites; Founder of Library

The funeral for Mrs. Charles J. Tucker, sister of Georgia Supreme Court Judge Bond Almand, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Methodist Church of Lithonia. Rev. G. B. Henderson will officiate and burial will be in the Lithonia City Cemetery.

Mrs. Tucker, 87, died Saturday at her home in Lithonia. She was the former Sadie Almand, whose family settled in DeKalb County in 1826. She attended Agnes Scott College, and graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon.

Mrs. Tucker was a Sunday School teacher at the First Methodist Church in Lithonia for over 40 years. She founded the first library in Lithonia, at her home, and was formerly president of the Lithonia Woman's Club.

Also surviving are sons Charles J. Tucker, Jr., Atlanta; Joseph A. Tucker and Edgar G. Tucker, both of Lithonia; brothers Dr. J. M. Almand, Detroit, Mich.; and John P. Almand, Little Rock, Ark.; and granddaughter Susan Tucker, Paris, France.

The Atlanta Journal (Atlanta, GA), 23 January 1966, page 42

A couple notes: According to her obituaries and the George Death Index, Sadie died on Saturday the 22nd of January, not the 23rd. Her gravestone is incorrect. Also, Lithonia Methodist Church's building was designed by Sadie's brother, architect John Parks Almand.
