AGED HOOPPOLE WOMAN PASSES
"Hooppole. - Mrs. Louise Leonard, aged 90, died at 5:30 Monday morning in her home three miles northwest of Hooppole. She had been ill for some time.
Funeral services were conducted Christmas day in the home at 1:30 in the afternoon and in Zion Evangelical church of Hooppole at 2. The Rev. H. J. Stelling of Forreston officisted, and was assisted by the Rev. A. R. Buckrop of Hooppole. Burial was in Hooppole cemetery.
Mrs. Leonard was born June 25, 1845, in Sundhasuen, Alsace Lorraine, daughter of Philip and Elizabeth Mathis. Several years later her father came to this country, and early in 1850 the mother and their three children joined him. They lived near Des Plaines five years and then moved to the farm near Hooppole where Mrs. Leonard was reared.
She was married to Jacob Leonard of Blue Hill, Neb., July 13, 1885. They lived in Nebraska a short time and then moved to a farm near Hooppole. Mr. Leonard was a native of Germany, and was a member of the Imeprial Guards of Kaiser Wilholm before he left that country.
He died Dec. 30 1931, and was buried on New Year's day, 1932.
Mrs. Leonard is survived by one son, William, at home, and four brothers, Edward and Albert Mathis of Anaheim, Cal., and August and George Mathis of Hooppole.
Pallbearers were Philip Hartwick, John Metzner, George Weiderhoff, William Countryman, Henry Dorney and George Beuchel."
