Faith spent her childhood and early teenage years in Avalon, Pennsylvania. In 1946, the family moved to Monaca, Pennsylvania where she attended and graduated from Monaca High School in 1950. She was an active member of the student body participating in the Girl's Athletic Association, Student Council, President of Tri Hi Y, and editor of Acanom, the school's year book.
Following graduation, the Hughes family moved to Bellevue, Pennsylvania. Faith entered the freshman class of The College of Wooster in the fall of 1950. In the summer of 1951, she auditioned for the drama department of Carnegie Tech, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was accepted. Faith decided to return to Wooster and completed her sophomore year in the spring of 1952, majoring in physical education and drama.
Faith and Ed married in Pittsburgh on May 7, 1955. Their daughter, Karen Laurine Roolf Schaller (William Anton, Jr.) was born in Pittsburgh in 1959.
The Roolf's lived in Austintown, Ohio from 1960 to the early 1970's when they returned to the North Hills area of Pittsburgh.
Upon return to Pittsburgh, Faith was hired as an Administrative Assistant with Ketchum Communications, the large advertising and public relations firm.
When Ed and Faith retired in 1992, they relocated to Carnegie, where they maintained a home until Faith's passing.
Faith was an experienced dancer, having taken lessons at the Kelly Dance Studio, owned and managed by dance star Gene Kelly's family. Her love of dance remained with her throughout her life, directing and performing as a senior in various talent shows in the North and South Hills areas of Pittsburgh.
She was active in The March of Dimes fundraising in both Austintown, Ohio and Pittsburgh for many years. Faith loved her cats. Every December lucky friends and family were rewarded with a bottle of her delicious holiday eggnog.
Faith was the sister of the late Dr. George VanGilder Hughes and Dr. John Aiden Hughes. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will remember Faith with fondness.
A celebration of Faith's life will be held at a later date at the Leo J. Henney Funeral Home, 323 Second Avenue, Carnegie, PA.
She will be buried with her husband at Allegheny County, Memorial Park, Allison Park, PA.
