Tenth of ten children of Colville Abercrombie, Sr. (1762-1847) and Mary Lindley (1864-1850) was born 1809 in Laurensville (later named Laurens after 1873), Laurens District (County), South Carolina. He died 1 October 1868 in Laurens County, South Carolina (59 yrs. old).

About 1830 in Laurens District (County), South Carolina Lindley married first Rachel Mahaffey (1810-1850). The daughter of Hugh Mahaffey (1774-1846) and Rachel Mahon (1769-1814) and also the sister of Sara Elizabeth (Mahaffey) Abercrombie (1799-1863) who married Lindley's older brother Colville Abercrombie, Jr., (1793-1838). Abercrombie brothers married Mahaffey sisters. Sadly, Rachel passed away from complications of pregnancy of her tenth child.

About 1851 in Laurens County, South Carolina Lindley married second Winifred "Winnie" Graden (1822-1886).

Ten children to Lindley and Rachel:

1.) Mary Hannah Abercrombie (1831-1891) who was the second wife of William Alexander McGEE, MD (1816-1884) (moved to MS);

2.) Elizabeth "Betsy" Abercrombie (1834-1893) who married James LOVEN (1826-1863);

3.) Calvin Abercrombie (1836-1893) who married Martha Hellams (1839-1904);

4.) Lindley Abercrombie, Jr., (1838-1907);

5.) Rachel Lavinda Abercrombie (1840-1898) who never married;

6.) John Abercrombie (1842-1903) who married Martha Jane (unk. maiden) (1850-1913);

7.) Cynthia Abercrombie (1844-unk);

8.) Hugh Abercrombie (1846-1909) who married Frances Matilda "Fannie" Jones (1857-1933);

9.) Anderson Abercrombie (1848-1928) who married Kate Pitts (1853-1905); and

10.) Martha Jane Abercrombie (1850-1911) who married Henry Franklin TUMBLING (1849-1924).

Lindley and Winnie had two children:

1.) James H. Abercrombie (1861-1929) who married Amelia Gwinn (1881-1960); and

2.) William Abercrombie (1865-1915) who married Lillie Belle Jameson (1875-1967).

The exact location of Lindley's final resting place is not known, but this memorial page will serve to honor him until then.
