Mrs. Janet Bailey Hammond, an officer of several state historical organizations, died Friday at her Seal Beach, Calif. home after three months of illness. Mrs. Hammond, formerly a resident of Bluefield, was the honorary state president of the West Virginia Branch of the Huguenot Society of the Founders of the Manakin in the Colony of Virginia, and was serving her second consecutive term as national historian of that organization. She had served as State librarian of the West Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution, regent of the John chapter of the DAR in Bluefield. During her term as state librarian, she was honored with a bronze plaque which hangs in the library in the Memorial Continental Hall in Washington, D. C. Mrs. Hammond also served as president of the Mercer County Woman's Republican Club and the woman's Auxiliary of the First Presbyterian Church in Bluefield. She is survived by her son, Frederick Troy of Los Alamitos, Cal.. The body is being sent to the Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield where service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a. m.
