A. Burke Bair, 93, of (Alpine) Indian Valley, Idaho, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 1998, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Eddy Smith. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Thomason Funeral Chapel, Weiser. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weiser.
Burke was born June 20, 1905, at Bozeman, Mont., the son of Robert and Kitty Snyder Bair. The family traveled by covered wagon to Boise, where they spent two years, then back to Montana for several years, returning to Idaho in 1916 where they homesteaded on Willow Creek north of Star. He rode horseback to the school in Emmett.
Burke attended Intermountain Institute at Weiser, where he met his future wife, Kate Hutchison. They were married July 1929 at Weiser. The couple were married for 66 years. She passed away March 1997.
After graduating he worked for the institute as a mechanic instructor. In 1937 the couple purchased Alpine Store where they lived until retirement in 1972, moving next door where he lived the remainder of his years.
Survivors include twins, daughter, Donna and Eddy Smith of Alpine; son and wife, Don and Edna Bair of Boise; five grandchildren, Debbie Raney, Kathy Smith, Bill Bair, Doug Smith and Teresa Bair; also seven great-grandkids. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert.
