Shawnee resident Clarence George Schwanz, 94, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, at a local hospital.
He was born March 25, 1913, in Alfalfa County, to Arthur and Almeda (Dillon) Schwanz.

He graduated from High School in 1931, in Kiowa, Kan.

On Jan. 4, 1938, he married Leta Wright in Kiowa.

He worked as a carpenter and missionary to the Navajo Indians in New Mexico and was in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of the Church of God and was a caretaker for a Historical Site in California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; three sisters; and one grandchild.

Survivors include his wife, Leta Schwanz of the home; six children and spouses, Stan and Laura Schwanz of Idaho, Keith and Judy Schwanz of Ohio, Marilyn Carpenter and Jerry of California, Paul and Colleen Schwanz of Ohio, Sharon and Michael Thompson of Ohio, and Ruth Peterson of New Mexico; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, and nephews and other relatives.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of God Chapel, South Gordon Cooper Dr. with Bro. Carl Shaffer officiating.
