Stephen's obituary read:
"Stephen R. Best, October 3, 1926 - February 14, 2014, age 87. Steve is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce, their children Jaina and Randall, and grandchildren Hannah, Alex and Simon Chervitz and Madeline, David, Alicia and Alan Best. Steve was a social worker and active in civil rights and social justice causes. He was an active member of the Ethical Society and Rationalist Society. Steve enjoyed modern art and stereo photography. He combined these interests in his own stereo paintings, drawings, stabiles, and mobiles. Steve was known for his intelligence, wit and fondness for puns. Services: The memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 22nd at the Ethical Society of St. Louis, 9001 Clayton Road, 63117. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Ethical Society, the American Friends Service Committee, 1501 Cherry Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102 or the charity of your choice."--St. Louis Post-Dispatch, February 17, 2014.
