William H. Bennett, a well known and highly respected citizen of Guthrie Center, passed to his reward early Tuesday morning, after a long illness of monuth with kidney trouble. He had been a resident of this community for thrity years and by honorable conduct and an upright life of his fellowmen.
He was born Aug. 31, 1838 at Holmdale, Monmouth county, New Jersey. He was married to Hannah Parker, on 3rd day of Oct. 1858, to this union four children were born, three of which grew to maturity and are members of this county. William Henry Bennett, Jr. living at Panora, Mrs Elizabeth Williams, of Dale, and Mrs Ophelia Horton of Guthrie Center, who with the wife and mother surive him.
When the Civil War beganhe enlisted in Company G. 29th New Jersey infantry, and performed the duties of a soldier with the bravery and fidelity.
He moved to Guthrie County in 1883, buying a farm in Baker twp., living there untill 1901, when he moved to Guthrie retring from the activities of a well earned life. He united with the Baptist church in early life and in his later life was one of the church faithful and prominent members of the church in Guthrie Center. His furneal was held for that church Wednesday conducted by his pastor, Rev, H. T. LeGarnda, assisted by Rev. Matthews, paster of the Methodist Espical church. The services at the grave side was in charge of the members of Tracy Post G. A. R. of wihich he was a hornored citizen
