Millington - Helen Baddour Deneka, 95, of Millington, TN died January 27, 2021. She was born December 26, 1925, in Munford, TN, one of six children to Lebanese immigrants, the late Robert Kary and Rose Haddad Baddour. Helen graduated from Munford High in 1943, was a proud graduate of Baptist School of Nursing Class of 1946, and received training as a Nurse Anesthetist at Grace Hospital in Detroit, MI. She worked at Baptist-Central in Memphis as a CRNA for Dr. Thomas Moore, the original owner of Graceland, and then for Dr. Raymond Mayer and Dr. Gordon Mathes, Sr until their retirement. After a brief period away, she returned to nursing at Baptist-Tipton in Covington, TN as a surgical RN, finally retiring in 2014 at the age of 89. Her family also owned Fred's of Millington from 1961 until 1985. She has been a faithful member of Millington First Baptist Church since the early '70s and belonged to both the Millington Book Club and Millington Bridge Club. Helen was married to Harry Deneka from May 25, 1952 until his death at 97 on April 2, 2020, almost 68 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers Kary, George, and Harry Baddour. She is survived by three sons, Michael Deneka of Roanoke, VA, Ray (Marsha) Deneka of Munford, and David (Kim) Deneka, MD of Memphis, 8 grandchildren, a great grandchild with another due in April, her sisters Lilly Icenhour of Munford and Nellie Pike of Dyersburg, a cousin, George Mansour of Memphis and many other family, friends, and co-workers whom she dearly loved. A special thank you from the family to Addie Mae Wherry for her years of devotion and friendship. Helen will be fondly remembered for her unlimited generosity, superior work ethic, delicious Lebanese cooking and attending every Baddour Center Fashion Show for 40 years while bringing many friends, among her many other admirable qualities. Above all, she was a wonderful mother and Sieta. Visitation will be Saturday, January 30th, 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel, with a Graveside Service Sunday, January 31st at 2:00 p.m. at Helen Crigger Cemetery in Munford.
