David Bryan Baker, 72 of Perkinston, went home to heaven January 22nd from his home. He was born November 11, 1948 in Kennett, MO, the oldest of four children to Bryan Thomas and Lucille (Wilburn) Baker. Growing up in Southeastern Missouri, not far from the Mississippi river, David was in farm country and learned what a days work was all about. He chopped cotton and threw watermelons as soon as he was big enough to do so. That work ethic stayed with him through life and he never shyed away from work or whatever needed to be done. David endured polio in his younger years, but even that couldn't slow him down. After graduating from Kennett High School, David attended the David Ranken School of Mechanical Trades where he studied carpentry. He joined the US Navy Seabees where his carpentry skills were put to use and honed even further, serving one term that included deployment to Vietnam. After his discharge, David returned to South MS and went to work in construction. He spent his career, quickly becoming a superintendent for Puckett first, but eventually to Dan Hensarling and retiring after 35 years. David is remembered as a very hard working and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. A master carpenter in every sense of the word, his hobbies included building and repairing or re-building furniture. David built many items through the years, including hope chests for all his granddaughters. He enjoyed travelling with his wife in their spare time, only missing four states in their quest to see them all. A Christian by faith, David had been attending and serving at Unity Baptist Church in McHenry, where they also enjoyed participating with what he called the "Eating Club" or "Friday Night Gang". enjoying many dinner trips together. He will be fondly remembere and sadly missed by all whose life he touched. David was preceded by his parents, Bryan & Lucille Baker. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife Jean; their children, three daughters Robin (Matt) Williams of Helena, FL, Jennifer Baker of Nashville, TN and Reva (Carl) Beech of McHenry, with one son, Phil (Lori) Dearman of Woolmarket; his siblings: sisters Brenda Ursey and Becky Keys, both of MO, and one brother, Bruce (Pam) Baker of VA. David leaves a legacy of nine grandchildren: Jonathon, Matthew, Carter, Stephen, mark, Maddison, Kennedy, Colston and Ellie, with one great-granddaughter, Harvest Baker, along with numerous extended family, friends and neighbors through the years. David had arranged to have his body donated to science, which his family is honoring, with a memorial service to be set for a later date. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Baker family in their time of need, asking everyone to keep them in yoiur thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
