Mrs. Lena E. Shumate
Mrs. Lena Elizabeth Shumate, 56 years of age, died Sunday at her home near Clifton City. Mrs. Shumate was born July 17, 1881, an only child of Mr. and Mrs. A.G. Davis of the Lookout neighborhood.
She spent her childhood there and attended the Scott school. As a young girl she joined the Memorial Baptist church of which she was a member until four years ago when she moved her membership to the Providence church.
She was united in marriage to Delbert D. Shumate on February 27, 1901. To this union seven children were born. Two sons died in infancy. Those surviving are Mrs. E.M. Mehl, of Sedalia; Mrs. T.A. Seifert, Kansas City; Mrs. J.E. Closser, Beaman; Mrs. W.E. Pulley, Pleasant Green, and Marvin Shumate of the home. Mrs. Shumate also leaves 16 grand-children.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Providence church, near Clifton City. Pallbearers will be friends and neighbors.
