Mimbet, dam of 1997 Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) winner Elmhurst, was euthanized March 9 because of the infirmities of old age.
The 23-year-old daughter of Raise a Native was kept at Robert N. Clay's Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Ky. She had been a pensioner since last fall.

Mimbet and Elmhurst were both bred by Calumet Farm. But unlike her famous son, Mimbet failed to place in six starts.

Elmhurst, a millionaire son of Wild Again, upset the Sprint at 16-1 to win for owners C. N. and Carol Ray's Evergreen Farm and Jenine Sahadi. Trained by Sahadi, Elmhurst streaked the six furlongs in 1:08 flat.
Mimbet was bred similarly to Calumet great Alydar. Alydar also was by Raise a Native, and Mimbet's dam, Calumet champion Our Mims (by Herbager), was a half-sister to Alydar.

Mimbet, who was owned at the time of her death by Dietrich von Boetticher, produced 10 named foals, six of which were winners, including stakes-placed Bet On Blade. She also has an unnamed Stravinsky yearling colt.
