Obituary
Donald Boots "Don" Watson, 84 years old, of Pampa, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Pampa Regional Medical Center. He was born July 20, 1936 to George and Bluebell Watson in Hereford, Texas.
At a young age, Don's family moved from Hereford to Miami where he graduated from high school then went on to receive his master's degree in Animal Nutrition from Texas Tech University. In 1960, he moved to Canadian, then in 1962 to Spearman and finally he was relocated to the College Station area with the US Department of Agriculture as the Assistant Chief Program Specialist for the ASCS office running peanut crops, as a matter of fact, he ran the largest peanut producing crop in the nation at the time! As a side gig, he ranched and ran a cow to calf operation. After 30 years with the ASCS, he retired and made Pampa his home in 1988. He began buying real estate property for rental units. Don was overly generous and would drop whatever he was tending to in a heartbeat to address someone else's needs. One of his most favorite pastimes was family genealogy as he had a vast knowledge of his heritage and was famous for asking whomever he was conversing with about their linage to see if they were potentially related. He was intrigued by history and spent countless hours reminiscing the past. Don was extremely intelligent and pro-educational and if given the opportunity, he strived to teach others to broaden their knowledge base. He lived an old western lifestyle - very simplistic, honest, and hardworking. His infectious laugh, stories and generous nature will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; older brother, James Willis Watson and his sidekick, Bad Cat.
He leaves behind to retell his stories, a younger brother, Billy Wayne Watson of Hereford; three nephews, Drew Watson and wife Stacy of White Deer, Trent Watson and wife Missy of Pampa, Mike Watson of Dallas; a niece, Misty Watson of Temple and longtime best friends, Amy Natividad and Rachel Vilarreal both of Pampa.
Don will be available to pay final respects Wednesday, January 13th from 1 to 8pm; Thursday from 9am to 8pm; Friday from 9am to 8pm and again Saturday from 9am to noon at Winegeart Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 16, 2021 at the Roberts County Cemetery in Miami, Texas with Brother Jim Sinyard officiating. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
Don's celebration will be livestreamed on our Facebook page at the time of services and then following the services will be posted on our website.
Should donations be a preference, the family suggests they be made to the Roberts County Museum, 120 East Commercial Street, Miami, TX 79059 in honor of Don.
