Soldier of the Revolutionary War.

Gen. Goodwin was the son of Nathaniel and Lydia (LeBaron) Goodwin; born 1748, married Molly, daughter of Thomas and Hannah (Woodworth) Jackson, 1769.
His father was a merchant, and he was educated in the same line, under his father's care and discipline. He soon established a reputation for industry and perseverance.
Upon the breaking out of the Revolutionary war, he was soon found in the army, entering the service in the office of Major of Militia, and was attached to Colonel Gerrish's regiment, and was located at Boston and Cambridge, to guard the conventional troops taken under Burgoyne at Saratoga. He was a Major in the expedition to Rhode Island in 1778. Afterwards promoted to the office of Brigadier, and later to Major-General of Militia, which office he retained till his death. For many years he represented to town of Plymouth in the General Court, and was also a magistrate, having the qualities of an impartial judge. In all the duties to which he was called he was assiduous and capable, and was held in the highest esteem for probity, integrity and other virtues.
By his first wife he had seven children. He married 2d Ruth, daughter of Rev. John and Ruth (Angier) Shaw of Bridgewater, 1782, by whom he had two children - Anne, who married Dr. Caleb Boutelle, and Ezra Shaw, who for twenty years was Pastor of the First Congregational Church in Sandwich, where he died Feby. 5, 1833.
