Burial Hill Its Monuments and Gravestones
by Benjamin Drew
Published 1894 - Page 295
This monument is of a very different material from any previously mentioned.
In some respects it resembles sandstone; but some specimens afterward met
with, presented a laminated appearance. The color is, in my opinion, a mixture
of yellow and red. A few inches above the ground is a cleft extending nearly across
the stone. The surface is rough and moss-grown. At the top is a heraldic device, or
coat-of-arms, -three lozenges above a shield on which a lion apparently walking along
with an air of unconcern.
