Mary Lowe-Jackson
Mary Lowe-Jackson, devoted wife, educator, stepmother, and grandmother passed away New Year's Day.
She was 82.
An educator for over 35 years, Mrs. Lowe-Jackson began her career in Hodgenville after graduating from Kentucky State University in 1960. She was the valedictorian of her class. She also earned a master's in education from Western Kentucky University.
In 1966, Lowe-Jackson took a teaching position with Fort Knox Community schools, where she remained for the next 30 years.
Mrs. Lowe-Jackson was a past president of the National Association of Section Six Educators, representing 3,500 to 4,000 teachers in government schools, mostly on military bases. She served as vice-president of the Democratic Woman's Club. She was a passionate advocate for education, lobbying lawmakers in Frankfort and Washington D.C. on behalf of teachers, students and public schools.
Mrs. Lowe-Jackson was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Ruth (née Pointer) Williams and Charles Williams. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Curtis I. Jackson, Sr. of Hodgenville; her stepsons, Curtis I. Jackson, Jr. (Ronna) of Troy, Michigan and Franchott R. Cooper (Lillian) of Detroit; her stepdaughters, Crystal Jackson, PhD. of Chicago, Illinois and Clarissa P. Jackson of Detroit; her brothers, Hervert Williams (Christine) of Franklin, KY.; Leon Williams (Linda) of Lexington, and Whitney Williams of Louisville; her sister, Shirley Mucker (Larry, Sr.) of Louisville; and an aunt whom she regarded as a sister, Mary Smith of Louisville.
She leaves behind seven grandchildren; Curtis I. Jackson III (Tre), Ruby Grace Jackson, Kennedy Cooper, Carlie Cooper, Andrew Cooper, Anna Cooper, and Caiden Rendles. She is also survived by her nephews, Larry Mucker, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA., Charles D. Mucker of Louisville, Steve Smith of Maryland, and Clark Williams of Lexington, Ky; and a niece, Lacretia (née Williams) Pratt of Franklin, KY.
She also leaves a legacy in education that has inspired numerous former students.
The family wishes to express its deepest appreciation for Mrs. Lowe-Jackson's devoted caregiver, Hope Edwards Self.
Graveside services for Mary Jackson will be held Thursday January 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Red Hill Cemetery with Reverend William Curle officiating.
Drive by visitation will be held Wednesday January 6, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the William R. Rust Funeral Home Hodgenville Chapel.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Greater Kentucky/ Southern Indiana chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
