Barbara Faye Kilgore died peacefully at home with her family by her side on Oct. 7, 2016, after bravely battling her fight with cancer.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Melvin; mother, Rosslee; brother, Ronald; twin sister, Brenda (Gay) Williams; sisters, Patricia (Tea) Jennings, Doris (Dot) Fleming, and Melinda (Linda) Umland; nephew, Brian Williams; and great-niece, Alexis Kyler.

She is survived by her loving partner of 51 years, Dolores (Dodie) Schelin; her children, Alicia Fontaine and Julie Riojas; grandchildren, Tyson and Tavia King, Kya Rognstad, George and Valentino Riojas; sisters, Marjorie (Paul) Gilbert, Maxine (Frank) Telling, and Valerie Sue (Jim) Hills; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara was born on Nov. 19, 1944, in Coal Valley, Alabama to Melvin and Rosslee (Lawson) Kilgore. In 1949, her family moved to Wyoming and then to Butte where she later met her life partner, Dodie. Barb worked in many jobs but was employed with Herb Leuprecht at the War Bonnet Inn and Butte Plaza Inn for 37 years, from which she recently celebrated her retirement.

Barb was the most kind, gentle, brave, strong, caring and loving person. She accepted all that came into her life. She was also the most hard-working woman anyone knew. When asked how she did it all these years, she would say, "You don't think about it, you just do it". Her tough-as-nails attitude made you both love and fear her. You didn't mess with Barb. With that strong will also came her heart of gold and there was never a child's tear that wasn't wiped. Barb loved children and her grandkids were the light of her life.

There will be a celebration of Barb's life to take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the McQueen Club. Anyone that would like to stop by is welcome. We will share stories, hugs, memories and laughter.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Frontier Hospice for providing comfort and care during this difficult time. We would also like to give a special thank you to Herb, Cami, Mike, Betty, Helen, and all of the staff at the Butte Plaza Inn for being such special friends to Barb. You all were extended family and she loved each and every one of you.

"While we are mourning your loss, many others are celebrating your arrival".

Axelson Alternative Cremation is privileged to serve Barb’s family.
