GENE FRIEZE Loy Gene Frieze, 85, died on December 19, 2020 after a long illness. He was born August 16, 1935 in Shell Knob, Missouri, to Eddie and Cleo Frieze. The family moved to California, and Gene attended grammar school in Oroville and Feather Falls. Gene often said that some of the happiest days of his childhood were when he lived in the Feather Falls community. Gene graduated from Oroville Union High School, married Rita Hickey, and began his working career as an automobile mechanic. He retired from Butte County Public Works in 1995. Gene enjoyed motorcyle and stock car racing, and had a love for country music. His Family: Wife of 66 years, Rita; son Randy; daughter Kathy Hill (Dan); sisters Edna Bailie of Missouri and Mary Horton of Oroville; grandchildren Kirstin De la Cruz of Santa Rosa, Amanda De la Torre of Oroville, and Ryan Shaw of Spokane, Washington; great-grandchildren Ryan Shaw, Jr., Dylan Shaw, and Evan De la Torre of Oroville, and Melody and Harmony Shaw of Spokane, Washington. No public services are planned.
