He has been in feeble health for several years. In the winter of 1862 he had a severe attack of congestion of Lungs which confined him for many months. His health has been seriously impaired. He is very subject to a cough & has been detained for Hosp duty & has not been able to perform any duty, but for short periods at a time. He has not been fit for that service for the last four months. I will further state that for the last two years he has been unable to perform any duty & only for a short time. L. Waddell, Surgeon P. A. C. S." [Note: Pvt. Shultz was discharged from the Confederate Army on Feb. 29, 1864.]
