Edward was the son of James Gideon and Tennessee Ann "Mordecai" Wright. His parents had nine children, but only three of them grew to adulthood and were married. Ed was the youngest child in the family. His mother died in 1882 and his father remarried to Fannie Elizabeth Presley and they became parents of 13 children.
By 1910, Ed was married and living in Wray, Jefferson Co., Oklahoma. He married (1) Myrtle Burrows and they were the parents of three children: Elmer Hugh, Ernest Henry and Thelma Lee. Myrtle died in February 1919. He married (2) Eva F. and they were the parents of one child, a daughter, Eddie Jo.
