Born June 11, 1918, at Leon, Rev. Ross died August 3, 1996, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont after a lengthy illness. He was the son of Rev. and Mrs. C.A. Ross, pioneer Baptist minister who pastored churches in Love and Carter Counties from 1916 to 1932.
Rev. Ross was raised at Leon, educated at Leon School except his senior year. He graduated from Burneyville High School in 1936. Rev. Ross moved to Chickasha and was married to Ida Belle Brooks on May 19, 1940, at 1st Baptist Church by Rev. W.A. Criswell, pastor.
He was a World War II veteran, serving 3 1/2 years in the South Pacific. After his war service, he moved to Fort Worth, Texas, and was a businessman until surrending to the ministry. He pastored Bluff Dale and Grapevine churches while attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, graduating in 1955. He then pastored churches in Texas and Oklahoma for more than 35 years until retirement due to his health.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ida Belle Ross of the home in Beaumont; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald J. and Evelina Ross, also of Beaumont; a brother, Rev. James C. Ross of Garland, Texas; three sisters, Billy Dene Mayo and Mary Hall of Fort Worth, and Bertie Brintle of Leon; and three grandchildren.
Interment was in Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont, with arrangements by L.M. Williams Funeral Home.
