Mitch married first Margaret Blackburn, March 19, 1894 in Pike County, Kentucky and they divorced before 1900 as the "widowed" Mitch was living with his parents in the 1900 census. Margaret was listed as Margaret Blackburn, a servant in the widowed William J. Sanders household in the 1900 census, whom she later married in December.

Mitch married second Harriett New, Feb. 12, 1903 in Mingo County, West Virginia. I am not sure if Harriett was a 15 year old widow when she married Mitch as her maiden name in most all records is Hatfield. Mitch and Harriett appear to have separated before the 1930 census, he is "married" living with his brother and she is "widowed." His death certificate states he was married but not living with wife.
