Iris is the gr gr gr granddaughter of William Alexander, Rev War Vet, 1752 Virginia - 1831 Kentucky.

A community leader with over a half century of volunteer service in this community died last week. Mrs. Iris Madeline Yocum, 78, died Friday, May 17, 1996 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Mrs. Yocum was dedicated to volunteer extension work. "For over 50 years, she was a 4-H leader and had received her 50-year homemaker recognition," said Carolyn Royalty, Mercer County Extension Agent for Home Economics. "She was active on all of the councils on the state level - 4-H, extension homemaker board and the extension council - and made three trips with the Kentucky delegates to Washington, DC in support of extension service." She was a homemaker, civic leader and member of the Salvisa Christian Church where she served as Secretary. She was president of the Salvisa Homemakers club, served in many offices for the Kentucky Extension Homemakers, both State and Regional, Secretary of the Salvisa Ruritan Club, 4-H leader for more than 50 years, chairperson of Mercer Chapter of American Red Cross for a number of years and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Born October 17, 1917 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Harlan and Jenny Chapman Parker. She was the widow of L. C. Yocum. Survivors include: one daughter, Aggie (Jim) Henderson, Lexington; one sister, Hazel Edmondson, Lawrenceburg; one brother, Donald Parker, Greenwood, IN; three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Bobby and Billy Parker. Services for Mrs. Yocum were held Sunday, May 19, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jerry Summers officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
