Carlton Franklin Austin of Queenstown, MD died suddenly December 5, 2020. He was 81.

Born on April 19, 1939 in Queenstown, MD the only son of the late Benjamin F. Austin and Ethel Smith Austin. Carlton was a 1957 graduate of Centreville High School and after graduating enlisted in the Navy. He served four years on the USS Ranger and when he was honorably discharged he returned to Queenstown, MD. Carlton worked as a waterman until retiring in 2010. Clamming, oystering and crabbing. As a life-long resident of Queenstown, MD he was very active in the community volunteering with cooking at Price Community Center and Ruthsburg Community Center. He was a member of the Queenstown Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Fellowship which is the highest recognition of Lionism. Was a member of VFW 7464, American Legion in Queenstown, MD. He was the first person to achieve Eagle Scout in Queenstown, MD. He was also a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Queenstown, MD. He enjoyed traveling and gardening in addition to spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis Austin of Queenstown, MD; two sons Kevin Austin of Stevensville, MD and Steven Austin of AR and three grandchildren; Brandon, Hunter and Hayden.

A visitation will be held on Thursday December 10, 2020 from 11AM to Noon at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Chester, MD. Following the visitation a graveside service will be held at 12:30PM in the Stevensville Cemetery in Stevensville, MD.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church 7113 Maryland Ave. Queenstown, MD 21658.
