Rhoda Ann Morgaridge was born November 6, 1864 in Albany, Illinois and departed this life in Blue Rapids, Kansas this life in Blue Rapids November 28, 1934 at the age of 70 years and 12 days.
She came to Kansas with her parents (Simmon G & Rachel (Hugunin) Morgaridge) in 1872, the greater part of her life being spent in Marshall County on July 25, 1881 she was united in marriage to Charles T. Hunter in Marysville by Probate Judge H P Wells. Most of these 52 years of happy wedded life have been spent in and around Blue Rapids. A number of years were spent in the Mound Chapel neighborhood, where she was interested in the Mound Chapel M. E. Church activities. Later on a few years were spent in the Waterville community. Since 1910 Blue Rapids has been her home.
Mrs. Hunter is the mother of five children: Mary Jane Saville, who departed this life August 14, 1918; Mrs. Maude Coberly of Clay Center, Kansas; William Hunter of Blue Rapid; Mrs. Pearl Wells of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Isla Hawley of Marysville. The mother has been in poor health for a number of years but the happiest moments were when she and all of her family at home. She was always doing something to help others. She never complained of her lot, even though sometimes the road was rough and the cross heavy. As late as Saturday she whispered she was getting better. And on Tuesday evening when some of the family suggested calling the doctor, Mrs. Hunter asked them not to do so. She said she was ready to go. Although weakening rapidly she was conscious until the last.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, four children, twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Minnie Horton and one brother, James Morgaridge both of Havelock, Nebraska.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 1 in the Blue Rapids M. E. Church and burial in the Fairmont Cemetery by the pastor Rev James B Wright with Rev Newton Sherman pastor of the Baptist Church assisting. Musicians were Mr. and Mrs. W W Coulter, Mrs. Carl Johnson, Mr. Kenneth Finham and Mrs. Frank Marvin. Pallbearers were H C Lathrap, Lawrence Van Valkenburgh, George Lies, Harry Peterson, Charles Moser and Bert Brooks.
