Charles Hunter, son of William H. and Nancy Ann Hunter, was born in Quincy, Illinois, November 2, 1853 and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J C Hawley, in Marysville, Kansas, Tuesday, March 31, 1936 at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 29 days.
Mr. Hunter came to Kansas when a young man and settled on a farm near Fact, south of Geenleaf, remaining there until 1880 when he came to Marshall County. On July 25, 1881 he was united in marriage to Rhoda Ann Morgaridge in Marysville by Probate Judge H P Wells. To this union were born five children. A number of years were lived in the neighborhood of the Mound Chapel M. E. Church where the family was interested in the church activities. Since 1910 he has lived in his home in Blue Rapids.
The deceased is preceded in death by; the daughter, Mary Jane Saville August 14, 1918 and his wife, November 28, 1934. There remain to mourn his passing, his daughter, Mrs. Maude Rachel Coberly of Clay Center, Kansas, his son, William Franklin Hunter of this city, the daughters, Mrs. W. B. (Pearl Georgette Vera) Wells of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Mrs. J C (Aretta Imogene Isla Charlotte) Hawley of Marysville, twelve grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and numerous friends.
Mr. Hunter had been in his usual health until a week before his death when he suffered a light stroke, from that time he grew gradually worse and passed away without a struggle, saying he was ready to go, having lived his three score years and ten.
The funeral service was held in the M. E. Church in Blue Rapids with the pastor, Rev James B Wright and the Rev Newton Sherman pastor of the Baptist Church officiating. Musicians were: Kenneth Finclam, Mrs. & Mr. W W Coulter, Mrs. C R Elder and Mrs. Frank Marvin. Pallbearers were: H A Watters, C T Watters, Harry Peterson, Floyd Sorrick, Bert Brooks, and Al Marvin. Interment was made in the Fairmont Cemetery.
