Phyllis Eleanor Blazek was born on July 11, 1939 to the late Victor and Mary (Cwikla) Taus in Huss Township, Roseau County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Benwood. Her first school years were spent attending Grass Lake School in Benwood. She then went to school in Greenbush, where she met her future husband, Don Blazek. Prior to her 10th grade year, her family moved to the cities where she attended and then graduated from North High School in Minneapolis. Shortly after her graduation she was united in marriage to Don Blazek in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush on July 6th, 1957. The two made their home in Blaine, MN for 10 years before moving back to Don's family farm in Greenbush. They were there for a year before they moved to Badger. Phyllis managed the Badger Café for 3 years before she and Don moved to Middle River, where they purchased the Middle River Municipal liquor store, which they renamed the "Wagon Wheel". A short time later they built Phyllis' dream home. They owned and operated the "Wheel" for 12 years. In 1978, she and Don built "The Meadowbrook Ballroom" and operated that for several years before selling it. Phyllis worked at Northern Pride Turkey Plant in Thief River Falls grading turkeys and eventually took over and ran the cafeteria there for 7 years. Phyllis was employed at Digi-Key Corp. for 27 years where she retired at the age of 75. She and Don have made their home in the Middle River community for the past 48 years. Phyllis passed away unexpectedly at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls on November 25, 2020 at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 14 days.

Phyllis was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Middle River where she was very active in the parish life at the church. She always gave selflessly of herself, whether it was cleaning, decorating, participating in bible studies, teaching religion classes, and always making kolaches for the annual Hunter's Supper, among many other things. Her hobbies included reading, needlework, quilting, sewing and making porcelain dolls. She enjoyed hunting and fishing. She loved to cook and bake, was exceptionally good at it, and loved to share the things she made with others. She considered it a cardinal sin to not have enough food to serve guests. She put everything she had into everything she did and will always be remembered for the gift of love she shared with her family and many friends. She was always placing everyone else ahead of herself. She truly did do things both large and small with great love.

She is survived by her husband Don of 63 years of Middle River, her children: Lynn (Ron) Nelson of Wood Lake, MN., Kim (Dale) Hanson of Baxter, MN., Kenny (Tammy) Blazek of Brainerd, MN., Patty (Terry) Peterson of Thief River Falls, MN., Tom (Melissa) Blazek of Aitken, MN., David (Lynette) Blazek of Greenbush, MN.; 16 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren; 2 sisters: Angie Solfield (friend Neil) of Brainerd and Joanne (Ken) Bombardier of Sartell, MN., along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents.
