--Born in Potosi, MO. Abbey came to Galena 45 years ago. He was interested in mining a number of years with the late W. F. Sapp. In 1916 he organized the Diplomat Gravel Company, in partnership with the late C. W. Squires and the late R. A. Coles. Later he purchased the holdings of the two associates.

He maintained an office in the Citizen's State Bank building at Fifth and Main Streets.

Mr. Abbey was a loyal patron of the Salvation Army work here and contributed generously to its support.

He was a member of the A.O.U.W. and the Galena Elks Lodge.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lucy Abbey, at the home; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Swaney of Galena and Miss Roseanne Abbey, at home; three sons, Harry M. Abbey Jr., of Paola, Kan., and Dan Abbey and W. J. Abbey, both of Galena; a brother, John Abbey of Bismark, MO; a sister, Mrs. Maude Missey of St. Louis, and six grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are in charge of the Boice Undertaking Company.

Prominent Business Man There
Many Years Succumbs to Heart
Attack at Tulsa.


Galena, Kan., Jan. 21.—Harry M. Abbey, 66 years old, prominent Galena business man and widely known throughout the Tri-State district, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at 5 o'clock this afternoon in Tulsa.

Mr. Abbey, owner and operator of the Diplomat Gravel Company, was in the bomber assembly plant in Tulsa, where he had gone on business this afternoon, when he suffered the attack. He was taken to a Tulsa hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He had left Galena at 2 o'clock this afternoon for Tulsa. Mr. Abbey was a contractor for the aircraft assembly plant and had made frequent trips to Tulsa in recent months.

To Galena 45 Years Ago.
For the last six years he had suffered from heart disease and had spent considerable time at St. Luke's hospital in Kansas City undergoing treatment. Born in Potosi, Mo., Mr. Abbey came to Galena 45 years ago. He was interested in mining many years with the late Colonel W.. F. Sapp. In 1916 he organized the Diplomat Gravel Company, in partnership with the late C. W. Squires and the late B. A. Coles. Later he purchased the holdings of the two associates. He maintained an office in the Citizens State Bank building at Fifth and Main streets.

Mr. Abbey was a loyal patron of the Salvation Army work here and contributed generously to its support. He formerly was active in St Patrick's Catholic church and gave chimes and vestments to the church when it was rebuilt following a fire several years ago. He was a member of the Galena Elks lodge.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lucy Abbey, at the home, 1212 Joplin street; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Swaney of Galena and Miss Roseanne Abbey, at home; three sons, Harry M. Abbey, jr., of Paola, Kan., and Dan Abbey and W. J. Abbey, both of Galena; a brother, John Abbey of Bismarck, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Maude Missey of St. Louis, and six grandchildren.

The body was removed to Harold Bailey funeral home in Tulsa. A funeral coach of the Boice Undertaking Company left tonight to return the body here.

HARRY ABBEY RITES
ARE HELD AT GALENA

Galena, Kan., Jan. 23.—City officers, the Galena high school and the public library were closed this afternoon during the funeral of Harry M. Abbey, 66 years old, widely-known Galena business man who died Wednesday afternoon.

Members of the high school basketball team attended in a body. Dan Abbey, son of Harry M. Abbey, is coach at the high school.

Rites were conducted at the home, 1212 Wall street, by the Rev. Father F. V. Barker, pastor of St. Patrick's Catholic church. Burial was in Hillcrest cemetery. Rosary mass was celebrated at 7 o'clock this morning at the church.

Active pallbearers were S. H. Reno of Kansas City, Marion Dickerson of Baxter Springs, Fred Archer of Joplin, Harry Schehrer of Picher, Nat Davisson, Tom Chew, R. L. Moore and W. H. Poole. Honorary pallbearers were E. R. Wheeler, Ira Perkins, Max Y. Sawyer and F. H. Rohrbaugh of Galena, and Delbert Outt and Tom Vest of Joplin.
