Edward Boyd
MARCH 10, 1952 – NOVEMBER 13, 2020

Edward Boyd was born in Shreveport, LA, on March 10, 1952, to Pastor Henry Boyd and Missionary Eliza Norwood- Boyd. He was one of six sons. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 23rd from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Centuries Memorial on Mansfield Road in Shreveport, LA. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 24th at 11:00 a.m. at Centuries Memorial with burial to follow at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery at 7970 Mike Clark Rd in Keithville, LA, with full military honors.

Edward was preceded not only in death by his parents, but by his brothers, Henry Boyd Jr., Charles Ray Boyd and Bobby Don Boyd.

Edward attended high school at Walnut Hill and graduated in 1970. He served his country for 24 years in the Army as a Master Sergeant and Drill Instructor. After his career in the military, he worked at General Motors for 17 years. He later attended Bossier Community College, where he sought a degree in criminal justice and served as a Bossier City police officer and later as a Captain at Forcht Wade and David Wade Correctional Center. Edward had a love for the Lord and was an ordained pastor. His church affiliations through the years included Crusaders Temple, Holy Mission C.O.G.I.C., Life United (formerly Word of Life) and the Fountain of Life Kingdom Church, all of Shreveport.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Barbara Boyd. Their marriage was a beautiful love story that gave them 21 glorious years in which they served the Lord together by caring and ministering to people of all walks of life. He is survived by his brothers, Harry Boyd (Vallie) and Randie Boyd (Brenda). He is also survived by his children, Melody Boyd-Cortinas (Tony), Tammy Kennedy (Todd), Bryan Williams and Angel Boyd-Draper (Corey); grandchildren, Halee’ Breann Boyd, Marc Anthony Christian Avila, Jeremiah Malik Cortinas, Justin Kennedy (Bill), Caleb Kennedy (Drew), Lauren Kennedy, Tyler Kennedy (Savana), Olen Kennedy, Christian Hamilton, Adriunna Draper; and great grandchildren, Allie Birmingham, Tinsley Kennedy, Wesley Kennedy and Mila Kennedy.

Edward loved life and was a great prayer warrior. He demonstrated to all who knew him the importance of following in the Lord’s footsteps by reaching out to everyone he came in contact with who needed a hand, a kind word, encouragement or prayer. He was also an avid New Orleans Saints fan and had a large collection of fan attire. There was never a doubt who he was going to be rooting for. His cheers and laughter will echo a lifetime.

Over the last couple of years, Edward battled diabetes and renal failure, yet he did not let it slow him down. Edward left a beautiful legacy behind for all who knew and loved him. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2.

Edward’s favorite Bible verse was 1 Corinthians 13:8 a, “Love never fails.” How true that is.

Pallbearers will be Tony Cortinas, Caleb Kennedy, Tyler Kennedy, Olen Kennedy, Terry McDonald and Mark Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the TLC Ministry (taking time to live committed as a married couple), in which Edward and Barbara led many small groups and conferences. Donations to this program may be mailed to Crouchs Time of Harvest Church of God in Christ at 5434 Fletcher Avenue, Fort Worth, TX, 76107.

*The family requests that all attendees of the visitation, funeral and burial wear masks.
