William was the son of William Clark of Hebron, Washington County, New York.

William married in Hebron, Washington County, New York, July 7, 1814, Lucinda Felt (1795-1836) by whom he had 6 children (3 sons and 3 daughters): William (1815-1896), Jacob Lorenzo (1817-1892), Lucy (b. 1820-1882), Mary (1825-1877), Cynthia (1827-1857), and John Flavius (1831-1922). After his 1st wife Lucinda died, William married Jane Allen (1799-1849) the widow of Ansel Whedon (1795-1831). By his 2nd wife William had 2 more children (1 daughter and 1 son): Ellen J. (b. 1839) & Allan (b. 1842). After his 2nd wife died, William married Lucy Miller (1797-1881) the widow of Hartley Hollister (1795-1843).

"CLARK - In this town, Nov. 7th, William Clark, aged. 92."

- On Monday, at 4 o'clock, a.m. William Clark died at Sciota, from congestion of the lungs, aged. 92. Deceased was born in the Town of Hebron, Nov. 21, 1789. He came to this place, at the age of 25, and married soon after. He had been the husband of three wives. By the first wife, he had three children, William, Lorenzo and postmaster John F. Clark. By his second wife, he had five children, Mrs. Lucy Wells, Mrs. Seth McFarren, Mrs. Cynthia Nelson, Rev. Allen Clark, and Mrs. W. H. Wright. He was a man whose life had always been full of credit marks. He lived to a ripe old age, and died respected by all who knew him. His funeral takes place to-day."
