Harvey was the 3rd and 10 children (2nd son) born of Harvey Bartholomew (1813-1869) and his wife Hannah McFarren (1818-1907). Harvey's siblings were: David (b. 1838), Annis (b. 1840), John (b. 1843), Hilliarn (b 1847), Thomas (b 1849), Annis (b. 1851), Clarissa (b. 1856), Allagustia (1858-1858), and Bertha (1862-1875).

Harvey married, April 7, 1867, Adelaide (Addie) Wells (1845-1922) by whom he had at least one son: Eber Milton (1868-1882).
