OBITUARY:

The Deshler Rustler, Deshler, Nebraska – 2 November 1955, Wednesday

Dorothea Christine Degner, daughter of Henry Vinkenberg and Caroline nee Elting, was born July 5, 1885, at Carleton, Nebr. She was baptized on the 12th day of July in Trinity Lutheran Church at Friedensau, where she was a lifelong member.

At the age of 14 Dorothea was received into communicant membership with Trinity Lutheran by the rite of confirmation (March 26, 1899).

In the year 1908, Feb. 27, she was joined in holy matrimony with Herbert Degner.

She was a charter member of the Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and was an active member during her whole lifetime.

On Oct. 5, Mrs. Degner suffered a slight stroke, but seemingly recovered from the attack. Saturday, Oct. 22, she suddenly became ill again, was rushed to the Hebron Memorial Hospital, and the Lord called her unto eternal rest Sunday morning, Oct. 23, at 1:00 o’clock, having attained the age of 70 years, 3 months and 18 days.

Funeral services were conducted in Trinity Lutheran Church at Friedensau on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 26. The pallbearers were the following: Edgar Degner, Edgar Juedes, Roy Stork, Edgar Scharot, Lester Swenson, and Dwight Vinkenberg. Interment was made on Trinity Lutheran cemetery.

Those left to mourn her sudden departure are her beloved husband, Herbert, residing in Deshler; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Degner, Jr., of Norfolk, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Degner of Sylvan Grove, Kansas, and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Degner of Carelton; 7 grandchildren; two brothers, Herman and Edward Vinkenberg, Carelton; one sister, Mrs. Wm. Raess of Fredonia, Wis.; plus a large number of relatives and friends.
