Chandler News 13 Nov 1958: Graveside rites for Miss Rose Newell of Shawnee, retired school teacher, were held Monday afternoon in Oak Park cemetery, Chandler. Funeral services for the former Chandler resident were held in Shawnee with Rev LaVern Ross, pastor of the First Presbyterian church officiating. Miss Newell died Saturday in a Shawnee hospital. She was born in Iowa and had lived in Shawnee since 1939. She taught school in Chandler, Bristor and Meeker for many years. Miss Newell was a member of the First Presbyterian church, AAUW, Pottawatomie County Historical society and taught Bible school at the First Presbyterian church. Survivors are a sister Mrs Grace M Gayman of Oklahoma City, 2 nephews John H Gayman of Oklahoma City and Richard N Gayman of Irving, TX; 3 nieces Mrs Ruth Roberts of Brownfield, TX, Mrs Marion Barnthouse and Mrs Grace Stephenson both of Oklahoma City.
