Ronald O'neil Chandler was born April 7, 1935 in Rogersville, Alabama to David and Marie Chandler. He grew up in the Oliver Community and graduated from Lauderdale County High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving honorably at various bases around the globe from Goose Bay, Labrador, to Morrocco, Africa, and many points between.

One day while picking cotton in the hot sunshine, he saw an Alabama State Trooper drive down the road in his cruiser and decided this was the job for him. His career stretched through both peaceful and tumultuous times in the state that he served for 27 years. He obtained the rank of sergeant and served much of his career at the Decatur, Alabama post. Some of his children and grandchildren's favorite memories are the funny stories he told from his time in law enforcement.

Ronald is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Terry (Janie) Chandler, Harold Chandler, and Winnie Swan.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Judy and his three children, Suzanne (Andy) Coffield, Greg (Pam) Chandler, and Kristie (Neal) Bahro; eight grandchildren, Emily (Blake) Persell, Erin (Carson) Hagood, Adam (Aly) Chandler, Ethan Chandler, Isaiah Chandler, Ivy Bahro, and Avonlea Bahro, and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Dan (Cathy) Chandler, Max (Marsha) Chandler, Marilyn Jo (Jerry) Patterson, and sister-in-law Shirley Chandler.

Ronald was a faithful Christian and a longtime member of the Eastside Church of Christ, where he served for many years as a deacon. He was an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Atlanta Braves. He loved spending time with his family who will sorely miss him.
The family will receive visitors Thursday from 10:00am-12:00pm. The funeral will be Thursday at 12:00pm. Both will take place at Spry Funeral Home of Athens.

Pallbearers will be Adam Chandler, Ethan Chandler, Isaiah Chandler, Blake Persell, Neal Bahro and Carson Hagood.

Donations in Ronald's honor may be made to Athens Bible School.

End of Watch: 11:55 a.m., 18 October 2020.
