Notes~ No stone has been found for him. It is probable that his first wife, Sarah Moore is here, but no evidence was found. She died between the 1870 Census, and 1876, when John remarried.

John James, 48; Wife, Sarah, 38; Children, Elizabeth, 17; William, 15; Reynolds, 13; Nancy, 10; John, 8; and Milton James, 4. Also living with them was Anna Moore, 66, mother of Sarah; and Catherine James, 24, relationship not noted.

His wife, Sarah (Moore) James, dies between 1870-1876.

Indiana State Board of Health Certificate of Death No. 8078, for Washington Township, Morgan County records John James, white male, age 93y, 10m, 15ds, a Farmer, and married to Susan, died about 7 p.m. on February 15, 1920, of "Organic Heart Disease." He was the son of John James, born in Virginia, and Susan Pool, born in Kentucky. William T. James, his son, was the informant. He was buried at Hilldale Cemetery in Morgan County on February 17, 1920, Wilhite and Son of Martinsville, undertakers.
