Death of Mrs. Jane Bowden
Rites for Pioneer Woman in Doniphan To Be Held Friday
Mrs. Jane Bowden, 74, widow of William A. Bowden, died about 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home in Doniphan, death apparently resulting from a heart attack. She was about as usual yesterday morning and had reclined on the davenport before death occurred. A Bible on a nearby chair indicated she had been reading.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in the Methodist church at Doniphan. The Rev. F. J. Aucock, pastor, will conduct the rites for burial in the family plot at Cedar View cemetery.
Mrs. Bowden, nee Sarah Jane Marsh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Marsh, Sr., was born June 21, 1868, near Blackearth in Dane county, Wisconsin. She came to Nebraska with her parents who located on a farm four miles northeast of Doniphan in 1877. She affiliated with the Methodist church in childhood, took an active part in church affairs and served as superintendent of the Sunday school. She also was a member of Doniphan chapter No. 228, O. E. S., which she had served as matron.
Sarah Marsh married William A. Bowden at Grand Island Mar. 21, 1885. Her husband died in 1924.
Mrs. Bowden is survived by a brother, Wm. H. Marsh, Jr., of Doniphan; two sisters, Mrs. Winnie Kenderdine of Maryfield, Canada, and Mrs. William G. Smith of Doniphan; also a niece, Miss Gertrude Fay Marsh, Chicago, whom she reared from infancy as her own daughter.
