Clyde was the husband of Daisy Louis (Price) Gray and the son of Millard Ernest Gray and Ola Bell (Stakes) Gray.

He was a retired painter who left behind his wife, Daisy, daughters Joyce (Gray) Parsley, Virginia (Gray) Stephens, Mary (Gray) Maynor, sons Clyde Ernest Gray Jr and Ralph S Gray, 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and three sisters: Page (Gray) Godfrey, Mary "Tookie" (Gray) Price and Bertha (Gray) Styron. Clyde was predeceased by his brother, an unnamed infant who died at about 3 weeks of age, his twin sister Claire who died at the age of 3 and his oldest sister Elma who died at the age of 9.

Clyde was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved God and family above all else. He is still very much missed every day. He was always ready to play with the children or to tell them a story about his youth. Even when he was ravaged by cancer, he didn't complain. He had a goal that even cancer couldn't defeat: he wanted to celebrate 50 years of marriage to his bride. On May 3, 1980, his family came together in celebration of his and Daisy's 50th wedding anniversary. Two weeks later, this wonderful and much loved man joined his loved ones who were waiting for him in Heaven. Clyde's passing left a void in his family that can never be filled.
