Lena Arlene Gunther passed away on October 1, 2020 in Beckley, WV. Lena was an eccentric and unique spitfire of a woman. She thrived on being a social butterfly, who loved to be surrounded by her friends and family. She absolutely loved to shop for others and always managed to find something for somebody she loved. She always impressed by keeping a beautiful home that she was very proud of and enjoyed hosting family gatherings.

Christmas was always a memorable time for everyone. Her many decorations, great food, and gifts were over-the-top and so wonderful. She made it known everyone was loved and made it a special and memorable time that so many have gotten to know. Her big hair, gold shoes, flashy clothes, and her many many purses were her signature. She knew nearly everyone around and loved to talk with anyone who would listen. She was a fanatic fan of baseball and was never afraid to yell her opinion at the top of her lungs while watching her grandson’s baseball games (even when her husband was umpiring).

She was born on November 26, 1932 in Talcott, WV to the late William D. Lively (1911-1992) and Pearl Nelson-Lively (Deceased). In addition to her parents, Lena was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Gunther (Deceased); brother, Billy Joe Lively (1940-2009); and sister, Norma Lee Lively-Foreman (1937-2018).

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Charles Harry Gunther (B. 1932) whom she married on February 27, 1955 in Crab Orchard, Raleigh County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Raleigh County, WV, 1955, Page 108, Application Date: February 3, 1955); daughter Sherri Gunther-Thomas & husband Gary Thomas of Beckley WV; brother, David Lively & wife Gwen Lively of Cool Ridge WV; grandchildren, Lindsey Naumann & husband Charles Naumann of Morgantown WV, Jay Thomas & wife Diana Thomas of Winter Springs, FL, Nikole Alliston of Seattle, WA and Erik Gunther of Harrisonburg, VA; great-grandchildren, Eli Naumann, Isaac Naumann, Luke Naumann, Corbin Thomas, and Colbie Thomas; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm with a memorial service celebrating Lena’s life beginning at 1:30 pm on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at Glen View Independent Baptist Church with the Rev. Duane Pease officiating. Lena will be laid to rest at a later date at the Mount Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery in Beckley, WV. Due to Covid-19 we request those who wish to attend the service to please practice social distancing and ensure proper facial coverings are worn.
