She was born in Richmond, Kentucky on January 10, 1933, the daughter of the late Dewey E. Spears and the late Lucy Williams Spears. She was a forklift operator for Parker Seal for seventeen years and worked as a machine operator for General Cable for more than twenty years before her retirement. She moved from Tampa, Florida to this area in 1996. She was a former member of TOPS, the Silver Sneakers and the Temple Senior Center where she spent many happy hours with her friends. She was very family oriented and enjoyed nothing more than "family gatherings". She loved to cook and bake for her family and enjoyed canning vegetables and fruits. The family said if you mentioned traveling that she was packed and ready to go before she even knew where they were going. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but leaves behind many happy memories that will make them smile every time her name is mentioned.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Richie; a son, Charles Richie; a brother, James Spears; and a sister, Jean Gevedon.
Survivors include her son Lyndon Richie and his wife, Tina, of Villa Rica, GA; four grandchildren, Charles (Julie) Richie, Lyndon (Tammy) Richie, Jr.. Joshua (Tonya) Richie and Kayla (Justin) Fields; seven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday morning, October 1, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. until the service hour.
The funeral service will be held Thursday morning, October 1, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. from the chapel of J. Hoyt Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Tanner officiating. Flowers are accepted, but the family has requested that they be dish gardens or plants that family members can take home with them.
Mrs. Richie will be transported to Reppert Funeral Home in Berea, Kentucky for burial beside her husband in the Madison County Memorial Gardens in Richmond, Kentucky.
