'Son' Owens Rites Today

Funeral for Palmer Jasper 'Son' Owens, 62 of 802 11th. will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in North's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Mr. Owens died at his home about 6 a.m. Friday.

The Rev. Joe Gilmore, Minister of the Second Baptist Church will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the Colorado City Cemetery.

Mr. Owens was born April 25, 1906 in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma to James Lafayette and Nellie Palmer Owens. He came to Texas as a youth. He married Mona Beach in Colorado City, Texas in 1920. They lived there until moving to Abilene 18 years ago. A veteren of World War II, he was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Mona of the home; two daughters, Sheila Kay of the home and Joy Busby of San Antonio; six sons, Bill, Nelson, Douglas, Benny Ray and Darrel of Abilene and Sammy in the army in Germany; 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; two brothers, Artie of Houston and Jack of Abilene; five sisters, Mrs. Hazel Conaway and Mrs. Mollie Miller of Abilene, Mrs. Atha Williamson of Olden, Mrs. Nell Donahue of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Mrs. Dinah Bowles of Houston.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Teddy and Lanny.
