Son of Virgil Asa Veal Sr. and Martha Sellars, husband of Anna "Nancy" Sandling, whom he married on October 1, 1897 in DeKalb, Georgia, and father of Joseph Wheeler, Martha Josephine "Josie" or "Mattie" (married William Paul Stone, married Thacker), Katherine "Katy" (married Ephraim Newton Singleton), Virgil Ernest, John Thomas, Guy H., William Franklin, Laura Elizabeth (married Clifford Henry Jones, married Wendell Griggs Collins) and Annie F. Veal.

In 1880, Virgil Asa Veal, aged 6, was living in Evans, DeKalb, Georgia, with his parents, Asa Veal, aged 33, and Martha A. Veal, aged 34, and siblings, Laura A. Veal, aged 12, James T. Veal, aged 8, John C. Veal, aged 4, and Millard F. Veal, aged 2. His father was shown to be a farmer.

Marriage - State of Georgia, DeKalb County, To any Minister of the Gospel, Judge of the Superior Court, Justice of the Peace, of other Persons authorized to solemnize: You are hereby authorized and permitted to join in the honorable State of Matrimony V.A. Veal Jr. and Miss Annie Sandling, according to the Rites of your Church, provided there be no lawful cause to obstruct the same, according to the Constitution and Laws of this State, and for so doing this shall be your sufficient License. In 1910, Virgil A. Veal, aged 37, was living at 102 Fortress Ave., Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia, with his wife, Annie Veal, aged 26, and children, Josephine Veal, aged 6, Katy Veal, aged 4, and Ernest Veal, aged 9 months. He was shown to be an inspector for the railroad.

On September 12, 1918, Virgil Asa Veal, aged 44, registered for the draft during World War I, stating that; he resided at 68 Doan St., Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia; was born March 28, 1874, native born; was a car inspector for Southern Railway Co. Shop, at Windsor St., Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia; and gave the name of Mrs. V.A. Veal, his wife, of 68 Doan St., Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia as his nearest relative. He was described as being tall, of slender build, with gray eyes and black hair.

In 1920, Virgil Veal, aged 29 (46), was living at 297 Cooper St., Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia, with his wife, Annie Veal, aged 25 (41), and children, Josie Veal, aged 18, Katie Veal, aged 15, Ernest Veal, aged 12, John Veal, aged 9, Guy Veal, aged 7, and Frank Veal, aged 3. He was shown to be an inspector for a railway company.

Obituary - Funeral services for Virgil A. Veal, 51, of 570 South Pryor street, who was crushed to death Wednesday morning in the North avenue coach yards of the Southern railway, will be held Saturday morning at 1 o'clock . from the South Side Baptist church. Interment will be in Veal family cemetery near Redan, Ga. Mr. Veal, a car inspector, was in the act of coupling cars when he was crushed to death. He had been with the Southern railway for 24 years. Members of Fulton lodge. No. 216. F. & A. M., of which he was a member, will have charge of the services at the graveside. Mr. Veal was a member of the South Side Baptist church. Mr. Veal is survived by his widow, four daughters, Mrs. P. Stone, Misses Katherine, Laura, Frances Veal: four sons, Ernest, John, Guy and Frank Veal; three sisters, Mrs. F. M. Owens, Mrs. L. A. Grice (sic), Mrs. Lizzie Veal, and three brothers, J. C. Veal, of Partola, Cal.: G. R. Veal, of Auburn, Cal., and O. R. Veal.

Veal are invited to attend the funeral of Mr. Virgil Asa Veal, Saturday morning, February 27, 1926, at 10 o'clock, at the South Side Baptist Church. Interment will be in VEAL CEMETERY. Pallbearers will be selected from the Fulton Lodge No. 216. F. & A. M., will please meet at the residence at 9:30 o'clock. H. M. Patterson & Son.
