Miria is a daughter of William Neill and Susanna Gray married October 14, 1832, Nelson County, Kentucky. William served in the War of 1812 as a Private, 2nd Regiment (Jennings), Kentucky Vols. In 1840 William owned seven slaves, four females and three males.

From Kentucky Death Records: William, age 80, was born about 1773, in Ireland, and died November 8, 1853, Nelson County, Kentucky from Apoplexy. His father's surname was spelled "Mcneil".

Her name was most likely spelled Maria or Mariah. She was named after her Grandmother Mariah Neff Gray.

Miria was the daughter of William B. Neill and Susannah Gray. William was born in Ireland and family tradition states that he came to America at the same time as Robert Gray and his parents. Susannah Gray was the daughter of Robert Gray and Mariah Neff, who were married in Pennsylvania. Mariah was of German descent.

William Neill was in Nelson Co., Ky by 1792. Robert Gray was in Nelson Co., KY by 1820.

Miria had a brother, William B. Neill, Jr., who was married to Martha Crawford. They also lived in Kentucky and Missouri.

Mrs. Carnes, who lived two miles north of this place (Bona), died Saturday Morning, Jan. 27, and was buried in the Long Cemetery. she leaves a host of friends and relatives to mourn their loss. We sympathize with the bereaved family.
