5099 Lance Corporal (or Private) J McClintock, 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons. He deployed to South Africa with his Regiment for the Second Anglo Boer War, and were deployed in the Colesberg district in Dec 1899 to prevent Boer incursions into the Cape Colony. They were part of the Army advance to and capture of Bloemfontein. LCpl McClintock was killed in action at Vredesverdrag/Zand River during the advance from Bloemfontein to Pretoria. His remains were later reinterred at Kroonstad Old Cemetery. He is also commemorated on the Enniskillen Boer War Memorial in Wellington Road, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland (see: http://www.irishwarmemorials.ie/Memorials-Detail?memoId=969).
