He was born April 25, 1921, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Milton Bennion and Cora Lindsay Bennion. Vaughn was the youngest of 10 children. He attended and graduated from the University of Utah and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and the University of Utah Basketball team. On December 22, 1942, Vaughn married Lyle in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He served in the marine corps during World War II. Vaughn was an executive with United Airlines for 35 years and traveled extensively throughout the United States and around the world before retiring and returning to Salt Lake City.
He was preceded in death by both parents; wife, Lyle; brothers, Wayne, Lowell and Lynn; sisters, Claire and Maurine; and grandson, Joshua. Survived by son, Vaughn Ralph (Rick), and daughter, Kristin; as well as grandchildren, Tori, Keith and Jeremy.
