Beloved model of service Lowell Bennion passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 87 years old after a decade long battle with Parkinsons Disease. Lowell was the son of Milton and Cora Lindsay Bennion. He grew up in the Forest Dale Suburb of Salt Lake and Twenty Years later he Graduated from the University Of Utah. He Married Merle Colton, and left for an LDS Swiss-German Mission. When he finished his mission Merle joined him in Europe while he pursued a PH.D in Sociology awarded him by the University Of Strasburg in December 1933. There they had there first child Laurel who died of an infection six months later.

Lowell had three careers spanning more than half a century. He was Associate Dean at the University Of Utah and a Sociology Professor until he retired in 1972 to become Director of the Salt Lake Community Services Council for 16 years. After the birth of a third son he moved his family to a four acre farm in 1943 in East Millcreek where spent the rest of his life. Not content with four acres, He founded the Teton Valley Boys Ranch in 1961. He derived immense satisfaction from supervising the work and recreation of more than 2,000 teenager over a period of 24 summers. He directed the LDS institute of religion in 1935 until he was released from that position in 1962. Lowell held many positions in the church from the genral to local level. He enjoyed most of all his three yaer tenure as bishop of the East Millcreek 12th Ward. In recent years Lowell was pleased by the creation of the Bennion Community Center at the University Of Utah. And the success of the Food Bank and other Community Services Council Programs. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends and colleagues.

Funeral services took place at the East Millcreek Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 3103 East 3600 South at 12 Noon on February 26, 1996. A Viewing took place at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary at 3401 South Highland Drive (2000 East) on February 25, 1996 From 5-8 PM and at the Church From 10:00-11:30 AM Prior To Services.
Graveside Services followed at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park in Holladay where he was buried beside Merle and Laurel in the Bennion Family Plot.
