DIED.

BARTHOLOMEW. - In this town, April 8, 1863, Leman Bartholomew, aged about 80 years.

The subject of this notice was born in Whitehall, May 5th, 1783, and always resided upon the farm that he owned at the time of his death. His father occupied the same farm before and during the Revolutionary War. About the year 1777, Lemma Bartholomew was married to Miss Anna Wilson, who was but 14 years of age. Soon after his marriage he was taken prisoner by the Indians and remained in captivity four years. Upon his return he found his wife living upon the old farm, and about one year thereafter, Leman, the subject of this sketch was born. Lemma Bartholomew died about the year 1790, aged 23 years, leaving four boys, the eldest of whom was Leman. His mother, the widow of Lemma, soon after married Roger Barrett, a Revolutionary patriot, and father of Gen. Barrett of Dresden, by whom she had 10 children. Leman was the father of 8 children (sic. 10 children), of whom 7 are now living. At the time of his death he had 29 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was a volunteer soldier of the war of 1812, and cheerfully suffered the dangers of camp and field in defence of his country. He began life with little to encourage him, but by patient industry he accumulated a competence sufficient to provide for his widow and children. He was an honest man in all of his business relationships, and a genuine partiot. His first vote was given for the great Jefferson and his last vote for the patriotic Seymour. He requested to be buried on the old farm, and the dust is now with the mother earth, and the spirit with God who gave it.
