St. Elmo -- A service of a unique character was conducted at Maxville, in the home of Miss McNaughton, when a gathering of relatives assembled to lay in the earth the ashes of the late Miss Maggie McNaughton. Her father John MacNaughton had a farm at East St. Elmo now in possession of Mrs. McKinnon. He died there, in a somewhat tragic manner; he had been from home visiting, although in poor health, and left the conveyance of a neighbour at the end of the lane to walk to his house, but was seized by a hemorrhage; he was found dead, with his coat under his head. His daughter Maggie was a teacher for some time before going west some 40 years ago. Previous to her death she expressed a wish that her ashes might be laid in the earth beside the bodies of her father and mother in the cemetery at Maxville. Her body was cremated and her wishes duly honoured. After the service a few friends proceeded to commit the small urn to their last resting place in the family plot.
